Sisters Mirror Lake hike
Alice (Steve's mom) accompanied us on this hike, which is profusely illustrated on page 2 of our 2005 site (click
here; "hike #2"). The mosquitoes were
biting along the trail, but the rock outcrop above the lake itself, where we sat to eat lunch, was bug-free. Alice had no
problem with this 7-mile hike, thanks to many hours spent on the exercise machines back home in Long Island, NY.
Smith Rock State Park hike
This starts out with an easy walk along scenic Crooked River, followed by a steep ascent and descent along "Misery Ridge",
passing a bizarre natural rock formation called "Monkey Face". Smith Rock SP, a popular area for rock climbers, is
surrounded on all sides by flat farmland, as seen in some of the shots.
The Western sagebrush lizard, Sceloporus occidentalis.
Monkey Face, viewed from various distances and directions.
The switchbacks on ascent to Misery Ridge.
Descending the other side, and approaching the trailhead/ bridge.
A surprise visitor at the picnic ground.
Green Lakes hike via Fall Creek
This hike is shown on page 1 of our 2005 site (click
here; "hike #1"). But this time we went
beyond large Green Lake #1 to see smaller lakes #2 and #3 nearby.
Lake #2.
Gorgeous shot of Lake #1 seen from the trail between #2 and #3.
