Ken in Scotland and Paris (page 2)
Used books were placed in bins outside- I picked up a copy of 'The Great Gatsby'.
A winter scene by Monet, in the Musee d'Orsay.
Sunset view of the Seine.
I traveled to Edinburgh one weekend to see a production of Chicago- American culture is prevalent in the UK (and most of the world) through broadway shows, movies, music, and entertainment in general. Except in the realm of sports, they could care less about basketball, baseball, or American football, and care quite a lot about 'real' football (aka soccer) and rugby.
The next four pictures are all scenes from my adventures through the highlands out west and the Isle of Mull. The grass out there has an especially deep green hue I haven't found elsewhere in this wide world.
Trafalger Square in downtown London.
A familiar site, under familiar English clouds.
Back to the Isle of Mull, a rainbrow breaks through the clouds.
Ansel Adams would have been proud.
I traveled across the Isle of Mull, the highlands, and western Scotland with my Aunt Heather, who flew out to travel with me. At this point we were hitch hiking across Mull, which is both legal and relatively safe in Scotland.
Ben Nevis, Scotland's tallest mountain, seen shortly after dawn.
Riding a small boat to the preserved Knoydart Wilderness. This boat also brought basic supplies to small communities in the western islands which had no roads connecting them to the rest of civilization.
Knoydart Peninsula.
The Gathering was a tiny elementary school for the kids in Knoydart.
It's funny how natural beauty and exposure to civilization seem to have an inverse relationship.
At St. Andrews I would get together with Tom, in the middle, and Isaiah, on the right, and jam to some Beatles and blues tunes. Tom normally played the electric guitar rather than the wine bottle, and Isaiah normally doesn't have horns (he was headed to a themed party).
Me and Sandip on the famous 'Old Course' bridge. If you ever travel to St. Andrews, you'll find it's very evident that it is the birthplace of golf. Tourists flock there year round, and a pro/celebrity tournament was hosted on the Old Course while I was there.
My room from the hallway. Hamish is a highland cow who somehow acquired celebrity status, and was part of the tour I took that visited Loch Lomond and the Wallace monument. He has a gift shop complete with mugs, keychains, and posters. He is a hero of mine.
I rearranged my room to get this desk setup, and did many hours of work here on cloudy days.
And finally, all suited up the day after returning home to dive back into capitalism and go work at Nordstrom.
