Paulina Lake shore loop trail.

This lake is located south of Sunriver along Hwy 97, then along a road to the east. The shore loop trail is ~ 8 miles.

In the shallow waters all around this lake, there were huge numbers of small fish, tentatively ID'd as "chubs".

Deschutes River along north edge of Sunriver, and Cardinal Landing bridge, seen from raft.

To Green Lakes along Fall Creek trail, and then back to trailhead via Soda Creek trail. Total distance ~12 miles.

Broken Top seen from Green Lake #2.

Panoramic view to the south from Soda Creek trail.

A tiny waterfall about a mile from the trailhead.

Smith Rock State Park.

"Misery Ridge" trail.

View from the top!

Another look at "Monkey face", from the back side of Smith Rock.

Return to trailhead, along the Crooked River.

These rock faces are popular with climbers.

Six Lakes trail.

Our first time on this trail. Trailhead is located farther south along Cascade Lakes Hwy near Lava Lake. Less appealing than Green Lakes or Moraine/ Mirror Lake areas. Lots of mosquitoes. No view of mountains. Total distance ~13 miles.

Blow Lake.

Doris Lake.

Vera Lake (half a mile past junction with Pacific Crest trail).

We took the raft onto Lava Lake following the hike. Chris got these shots of a blue heron.

Sisters Mirror Lake and Moraine Lake.

There are many routes to reach Sisters Mirror Lake. Here is the one we used this year, in comparison to 2006 and 2005.

It had rained the night before and there was mist near the ground.

There were still pockets of snow, although this was mid-July.

The initial "climber trail" toward South Sister is steep, but the woods are beautiful. This is a hikers-only trail, unlike many others in the area that allow horses.

First view of broad Wickiup Plain, after descending the steep forest trail north of Kaleetan Butte.

A couple of views of LeConte Crater with South Sister in the background. Middle Sister is visible to the left in the second shot.

Pacific Crest Trail, at west edge of Wickiup Plain, about to re-enter the forest.

Sisters Mirror Lake.

Nearby Lancelot Lake, where we ate our lunch; slightly lower mosquito population.

Some other small lakes (Denude, Bounty) to the west of Sisters Mirror.

Can you spot the cryptic frog here?

Last lake of the day: beautiful Moraine Lake, near base of South Sister.
