Visit to Matt's house, 16 Mar 2008

This year (first year at UW law school) Matt is renting a room in a house in the Wallingford neighborhood due west of UW. Vince and Sue Lyons are the owners. They have three grown children who live elsewhere. Matt is the only tenant. It's a nice, big house.

We (Steve & Chris) visited on Sun, Mar 16, on our way back home after the "St. Patrick's Day Dash" in downtown Seattle (see Seattle Times story here). The Lyons' had a St. Patrick's Day party, with ~50 people, the night before. Unfortunately, Matt had to study for upcoming exams so he spent the evening at the law school library.

Books for the upcoming quarter.

Private refrig, in hallway just outside bedroom door. How convenient!

Private bathroom.

Large kitchen, shared with the Lyons.

The "sun room", which looks out on back porch and back yard, is next to kitchen.

Recent shots of Matt & Anastasia, incl. dinner at Assaggio restaurant in Seattle.

Matt kindly provided a quick update of his recent exploits:

"I recently applied and interviewed for a spot in a competitive UW-sponsored summer legal program in Rome, with an emphasis on EU constitutional and civil law, as well as various intellectual property issues (there's even a remedial course in Italian!). I'll be living right in the heart of the city at the UW Rome Center (see link here) from mid-Aug through the end of Sep. I plan on making several trips throughout the region during my stay. I'll come back a quarter ahead in credits and just in time for on-campus second year interviews; I'm already looking forward to the increased flexibility allowed after the first year of law school.

In other news, I also recently applied, interviewed, and was accepted as the new UW Law School LexisNexis student representative, a position that will kick in next quarter and continue during my second and third years. This is a great position in the "largest legal company in the world" (according to their website). It will be the second time I've worked within the company (I spent the first 6 months of 2007 working with their office in Los Angeles). Fortuitously, the west coast Lexis headquarters is just across Lake Washington in Bellevue, so there might be more to this relationship in the near future."
